  • Maya 2018.6 | Vray Next 4.30.01 | PhoenixFD 4.10 Fatal error

    Hi,

I have a curious problem. I installed Vray Next 4.30.01 and latest PhoenixFD 4.10 for Maya 2018 (.6 here).
When I render a scene without Phoenix stuff in Maya, it renders. When I render a Scene with Phoenix stuff it creates a fatal error // Error: V-Ray : There was a fatal error rendering the scene. //
If I render the same scene (with phoenix stuff) from the command line (mayabatch), it renders fine.
The simulation I'm trying to render was simulated with PhoenixFD 4.00. I will try to setup a quick scene from scratch with PhoenixFD 4.10.

    any hints ?

Hey, can you tell me the exact names of the installers you used for V-Ray and Phoenix?

Sounds like a bad install for now...

I did the installation 2 times, with clean uninstall and reboot.
      vray_adv_43001_maya2018_x64.exe
      phoenixFD_adv_41000_maya2018_vray4_x64.exe

Meanwhile I tried a new scene from scratch, and I have the same fatal error.

I tried then to install on Maya 2019.2 (vray_adv_43001_maya2019_x64.exe and phoenixFD_adv_41000_maya2019_vray4_x64.exe) and it renders fine.

Trying it now, I have Maya 2018.5 here, will try it with this one and then update it if I can't reproduce it. Is there anything in the Maya log as it's loading up before you start rendering?

Meanwhile, can you double check if these files are there and they all have the same timestamp and size:

Roger that, so can you check C:\Users\ [your-user] \AppData\Local\Temp and see if there are any *dmp files from recent hours/minutes?

Hmm, I'm out of ideas. Does the crash happen when you create an Ocean preset, sim 1 frame, stop the sim and render?

Yes, I tried to sim with ocean preset based on a cube and it makes the same fatal error when you try to render. So, on your workstation with Maya 2018.5 it works well ?

But, don't worry. On my side, as it seems to work well on Maya 2019, I think I will switch to these versions for the work.

                        Thanks for your input.

Hmm, could it be that you saved the scene after the Fatal error? What if you make a new scene - does it still show the error?

                            I didn't save the scene.

                            - scene 01 (created with Maya 2018 and previous builds from Vray Next and PhoenixFD) doesn't render on Maya 2018.6 but renders fine on Maya 2019.2
                            - scene 02 (created in Maya 2018 from scratch) doesn't render in Maya 2018.6
                            - scene 03 (no phoenixFD stuff) renders fine on Maya 2018.6

Very weird. Indeed I could not reproduce it with 2018.5 or 2018.6...
